‘Meuble d’entre deux’ Napoleon III style from 19th century

This piece of furniture was bought in Paris by a customer who collected this kind of black lacquer furniture of Napoleon III style. The frame was very damaged, as shown in figure 1. For its restoration we assembled the entire structure of the furniture by re-gluing (see Figure 2). Furthermore, its ebonized veneer was completely restored. For that, we first re-glued all the filleting of brass and we added the ones that were missing. Finally, we varnished the furniture by using black shellac, as originally used for such furniture during the Second French Empire. To our surprise, our client decided to increase its collection of black lacquered furniture after seeing the result of that restoration.
