‘Mazarin’ style desk in Boulle marquetry of ebony and brass from 17th century

This desk with marquetry of ebony and brass is attributed to the famous cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle. Due to the poor state of conservation of this furniture, we had to make a major restoration. We produced some pieces of the structure that were not possible to restore, but they were crucial for the piece, otherwise the stability of the furniture would have been seriously compromised without them. We also restored most of its mortise and tenon joints and we finished fixing the structure by locking firmly the legs. The elaborated marquetry of this desk was completely detached, so we had to remove most of the pieces of marquetry to glue them to the desk properly.
