Fall-front desk in the French transitional style

This lady’s secrétaire is an original creation inspired by the transitional style. The carcasse is made of solid oak with a curve-shaped front, which has a sloping flap and two doors. The piece in profusely inlaid with fine marquetry of floral motifs on its three sides. The upper section is decorated with a bouquet framed with a lush garland of leaves, flowers and fruits rolled on a fillet in sycamore, in a wenge wood ground. This part opens to reveal a writing surface covered with gold-stamped leather. The inner compartment is veneered with satinwood from Ceylon, containing ten drawers veneered in rosewood, palisander and sycamore as well as a central shelf for storing books or documents. The downer doors are also adorned with graceful and light bouquets in both outer and inner sides. There is a shelf in the downer compartment. The gilt-bronze mounts are in rococo style. The interiors of this desk are finished with wax, whereas the exterior is varnished by the French polish way.
