This beautiful fall-front desk, known as “secrétaire en abattant”, in French Directory style is inspired by the work of Bernard Molitor, who was a cabinetmaker that produced furniture for Napoleon Bonaparte. The carcasse is in oak veneered in both mahogany and mahogany palm. This piece has a fine work of molders and fluting on the sides of its body, which rests in four turned feet. The lower section has two doors, enclosing a shelf. In the upper section under the drawer, there is a large sloping flap that opens to reveal a writing surface, and a compartment fitted with a shelf and six small drawers designated to store documents. It does not yet have either leather on the writing surface or marble on the top because they would be choose by the client from a variety of leathers and marbles.
